Halloween season is not only porch lights and candy bowls. It is also the stretch of the calendar when theaters fill up with witches, monsters, cursed houses, and the occasional stop-motion sheep trying to save October. Here are ten new releases landing before (or right on) Halloween 2026 that are worth a ticket, a couch night, or both. Dates can shift, so double-check local listings before you plan the night.

1. Hope (September 9)

Na Hong-jin (The Wailing) is back with a remote-village nightmare that starts as a police story and slides into something much larger. After wildfires cut a town off, a police chief and a rookie try to hold the line while a hunting party learns it is no longer on top of the food chain. The U.S. cut from NEON is the tightened version that already smashed records in South Korea. Go in cold if you can.

2. Practical Magic 2 (September 10)

Not a screamfest, and that is the point. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as the Owens sisters for a romantic fantasy sequel built for October rewatches, midnight margaritas, and anyone who wants witches without jump scares. Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are back as the aunts. Joey King and Maisie Williams join the next generation. Soft spell energy, big seasonal mood.

3. Onslaught (September 4)

Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett team up again for A24 with Adria Arjona as a former Army sniper protecting her daughter when engineered super soldiers break loose. UFC champ Alex Pereira plays the lead monster. It looks like an action movie wearing horror’s jacket, which is exactly the kind of loud night out this season can handle.

4. Resident Evil (September 18)

Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons) takes the game keys and refuses the remake trap. Austin Abrams plays a medical courier stuck in Raccoon City on the wrong winter night, running parallel to the chaos of Resident Evil 2 without recycling the old movie plot. Early-game dread, Evil Dead II energy, IMAX opening. This is the one a lot of people will plan their September around.

5. Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom (September 18)

Family Halloween, Aardman style. The flock is ready for the holiday until the Farmer wrecks the pumpkin patch, goes missing, and a beast starts roaming the woods. Shaun goes full mad scientist to fix it. Kids get the laughs. Adults get the craft. Pure October backdrop without the nightmares.

6. Beware Boiúna (October 2)

A medical team heads deep into the Amazon and wakes something old and enormous. The title comes from Amazonian serpent lore, and Lionsgate is pitching it like Jaws crossed with a river creature feature. Mike P. Nelson directs. Alan B. McElroy wrote the script. Ideal early-October creature weekend.

7. Other Mommy (October 9)

Rob Savage adapts Josh Malerman’s Incidents Around the House. A little girl talks to something that steps out of her closet looking too much like her mother (Jessica Chastain) and keeps asking the same awful question: can I go inside your heart? Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and James Wan are behind it. Quiet dread, closet logic, pure Halloween wiring.

8. Crawlers (October 16)

Venomous spiders overrun an apartment building under quarantine. Matilda Lutz (Revenge) plays the building manager who knows every hallway and still hates the things crawling through them. Short, mean, and uncomplicated. If you want one movie that is simply “too many spiders,” this is it.

9. Clayface (October 23)

DC’s R-rated body-horror swing. Tom Rhys Harries is Matt Hagen, an actor whose face is destroyed and who turns to experimental treatment that melts his body into clay. James Watkins directs from a Mike Flanagan story. Tragedy first, comic-book second. Strange enough to feel like a real Halloween event film rather than another cape movie.

10. Stiletto (October 30)

A new masked slasher arriving one day before Halloween. Gigi Gustin stars as a dancer hunting the killer who murdered her sister and still collects performers’ shoes as trophies. Eli Roth’s Horror Section is releasing it. The killer’s mask comes from the designer behind The Grabber in The Black Phone. Old-school October closer energy.

How to use this list

Mix the night. Pair Practical Magic 2 or Shaun with friends who want cozy spooky. Save Other Mommy, Hope, and Clayface for when you want the lights low. Keep Stiletto for that last weekend before the 31st. And if you are decorating while you watch, soft lighting and a clean mantel still beat a pile of plastic props every time.

Release dates are current as of early September 2026 and may change. Always confirm with your local theater or streamer.
